Four players have obtained the new Nordic Swan label for events

Since the Nordic Swan Ecolabel for events was launched on June 10, four Nordic players have been granted a license.

The licensed actors are currently located in Sweden, Finland, and Denmark. The Swedish agency Minnesota Communication was the first, and has arranged two Nordic Swan Ecolabelled events. The license holders in Finland are Warner Music and Nordic Business Forum in Finland, which together have arranged two events. The fourth is Middelfart Kommune in Denmark, which has carried out one event.

Hopeful that More Will Join

Kristoffer Lawner, Product Specialist for Events at Swedish Environmental Labelling (Svensk Miljömärkning), describes the start as successful and reports that interest is high:

“We are optimistic and believe that more will join, which means that even more events will become Nordic Swan Ecolabelled.”

The requirements for Nordic Swan Ecolabelled events cover energy and water consumption, catering services, transport, waste management, and social responsibility. Printed products such as print materials, signage, and packaging are also included in the criteria developed.

New EU Regulations in 2026

Lawner points out that upcoming EU regulations against greenwashing ( Empowering consumers in the green transition ), which will come into force in 2026, make the certification a strategic choice, as the Nordic Swan Ecolabel is recognized as “excellent environment performance.”

“So, getting your event Nordic Swan Ecolabelled is also future-proofing your sustainability communication, as the new law is due to come into effect in Sweden in 2026.”

Reviewing the Fee Model

Despite the optimism, Kristoffer Lawner admits that there have been initial problems regarding the structure of the fees.

“However, we have encountered certain challenges, for example regarding the model for our fees,” he says, but emphasizes that this is something they are now handling.
